One of the things that I was hoping for, when I started playing with artificial intelligence by way of openAI, chatGPT, etc. I was hoping for authoritative assistance. What I mean, is that I was hoping that I could get extra work done by relying on the authorship of a massive, artificial intelligence brain.
Somehow, artificial intelligence would weed out the erroneous bits of information, and somehow use some algorithm to figure out what is correct and what is Internet garbage.
Unfortunately, I think I could sum up the performance of artificial intelligence thusly:
When you send a query to Google about Labrador retrievers, it pulls up 27 pages of information about Labrador retrievers. Imagine if there was a way that some artificial intelligence program could go through all 27 pages and turn that into a coherent article.
Well, that’s exactly what we have.
And you would think that was amazing except that nowadays, those 27 pages on Labrador retrievers are shot-through with misinformation, myths, lies, dogfood-manufacturer errata, recycled trash and so much bullshit to get stirred in.
Artificial intelligence does not extract the ore. It’s still gold flakes amongst the mined rock. Just shaped into a statue.
