Parvo Treatment – Red Can Coke – Canine

The “Red Can Coke Trick”

Parvo Tricks: (Ways to save pups from Parvo exhaustion). Special thanks to Link..

The coke kicked him into gear – that was fast. He ate half a piece of white bread with some peanut butter on it, one peanut butter pill pouch and a few small bite of turkey slices. And lots of water. Letting him rest again. Thank you again!

NOT KIDDING: The “Red Can Coke Trick” to wit:

Open a can of ‘red-can’ (or glass bottle) “real” sugary coca cola with caffeine and let it go ‘room temperature and flat’

Then, use a syringe (or they might just drink it) 3 to 6 ml every four hours. (My anti-Parvo secret-sauce).

A tablespoon per 10 pounds by mouth every 4 to 6 hours when ‘fading’.

BACKGROUND:

Yes, the red can Coke trick, was designed by cattle farmers back in 1940’s or 1950’s, when a calf was going down with “Scours”, (that’s a really bad diarrhea in cattle-calves), somebody had the “Hail-Mary-Play” idea to give a whole bottle of red Coke to the calves when they’d be threatening to croak;  and it made an enormous difference, because it is a burst of sugar, and actually, the caffeine perks them up also for a couple hours. That gives them a burst of energy that allows them to eat a little bit of something, shake a leg, stand by their mama; all of which allows them to build a little bit of strength, and then when the sugar and caffeine wear off, they are just “a little better off“ and it “perks them along”. I learned that from Dr. Mason. The old vet that I used to work for; really good guy. He graduated in 1964 and he was my mentor.
