Vets Demonizing Other Veterinarians and Retired Human Doctors Acting Like Vets

Why do vets have to bash all the other Vets?

So, if you’re into homeopathy, what is it that makes you have to demean and demonize every other vet and Western modality on the planet? Why are the three biggest names in Veterinary Advice online NOT EVEN VETS but in fact retired human practioners in unrelated fields?

It would be EXACTLY like me retiring from veterinary medicine and becoming an “expert” on human dentistry consumerism and best-practices.

What is it that makes Western Vets badmouth everything holistic? A lot of what holistic and homeopathic vets recommend is reasonable and effective.

Why are the ‘followers’ of so many ‘herbal’ and ‘holistic’ vets so slavishly partisan?  Like, it would break their hands to give an antibiotic when a pet’s about to die of an infection, so they give honey and colloidal silver. Why is it SO HARD TO SEE that sometimes there’s a solution on the Western side of things, and a solution on the Holistic side of things? But NEVER ever “all the answers” on one side or the other?

And that’s where the consumer (and even the vets) are missing out.

A vet that isn’t using Ursodiol, DHEA or CBD because that’s holistic, dirty-hippie stuff. Or a holistic vet who isn’t using antibiotics or vaccines because that’s “big pharma” and all ‘lies and demons’.

What’s so hard about using antibiotics AND yogurt in a pet with an abscess behind the eyeball, or using a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy to repair a knee, and accupuncture and cold laser to help with healing and inflammation?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Why can’t we admit that Vaccine has its place, but boosting the immune system is equally important?

There is a Vet in Canada making a VERY good living with a book about “Veterinary Secrets” and it basically says that veterinarians don’t want you to know ‘natural’ ways to heal your pets. That “everyone but me” wants you to use Western modalities and horrible vaccines, but I will lead you, dear children, on the path to AVOIDING the vet, and his lies and deceit. I mean, not ALL Vets, (he adds). I mean, of course you should follow ME, I’m a vet, but understand that all OTHER Vets are to be avoided at any cost.

Whenever I see stupid stuff like that I always default to what I would do for my own dog Ajax. And that is:

  1. KEEP IT SIMPLE and AVOID FADS.
  2. NOTHING IS AS DESPERATE AS THEY MAKE IT SOUND.
  3. DOGS HAVE BEEN DOING FINE ON PURINA AND A RABIES SHOT FOR FIFTY-PLUS YEARS.

I also like to read Skeptvet.

Here’s a veterinarian with more time on their hands than I have, with the energy and vinegar to go after and debunk some of the craziest stuff that the human side lobs at the Veterinary side.

What I mean by that, is that the three BIGGEST Veterinary Health resources on the internet ARE NOT EVEN VETERINARIANS. One is a human doctor (Mercola), one is a retired human pharmacist (Mueller) and the third is a human DENTIST (Dr. Suzanne Valente, a retired dentist with lots to say about not spaying your dogs*) and the three of them coach a single veterinarian, Dr Karen Becker.

Dr Becker wants people to stop doing spays and neuters. She wants dogs to get tubal ligations and vasectomies but remain intact! The breeding, (mounting and estrus), discharges and behavior is just something we need to get used to. Right?

It makes me SO MAD when clients are told that THIS THING is BAD –  the only way to PROTECT YOUR DOG is to BUY THIS FROM ME.

Retired human practitioners in unrelated fields, without a moment’s exam room or practice experience advising the public on pet care based on extrapolated human studies.

It would be EXACTLY like me retiring from veterinary medicine and becoming a champion of human dentistry consumerism and best-practices.

The dumbest page of information on the internet, it would take me an hour and a half to trouble shoot this terribad page:

Above: Skeptvet has spent 20 years in ‘evidence based’ veterinary medicine, demanding that homeopathic and holistic vets ‘prove it‘ before running around bashing Western Medicine and selling their potions.

Back to the logic of a retired human dentist advising the public on veterinary topics without a day’s worth of practice:

mercola isn't a vet*”Dr. Valente explains that removing the sex hormones via spay/neuter in a young dog causes the adrenal glands to kick into high gear to try to compensate for the missing sex hormones. The adrenals can do the whole job in some dogs for a period of time; in other dogs, they can’t. It depends on the individual dog.” <= absolutely and categorically untrue. The adrenals don’t kick into anything. In dogs, the adrenals produce NO DHEA and so when you neuter a dog, the adrenals are powerless to replace the DHEA, it doesn’t depend on the individual dog. She’s using human data to characterize the activity of the adrenals in dogs.

Dr Valente’s problem was that she probably had a nervous-breed, reactive-attachment-disorder dog, (Probably a Spitz or Shepherd / vigilance breed mix) that developed diabetes. She thinks the nervousness (She says “At the shelter, Billy was slated for euthanasia because he was too fearful.”) and anxiety of the dog, AND the eventual diabetes, were caused by neutering him.
If that were true, we’d see diabetes is most dogs.
In fact, anxiety is worse in intact dogs, as they have compounded gender-rivalry (always looking over their shoulder) and reproductive ‘angst’ (scoping out an opportunity to procreate) to contend with, and diabetes in dogs is just RARE and has more to do with genetics than neutering. But you can’t convince a human dentist of anything when they’re so good at Veterinary medicine. You really have to stand in the exam room and treat thousands of dogs to get the gist of what’s REALLY going on. Books and ‘fact by consensus’ don’t cut it.
