London is a young boxer / bully mix with a big heart. He ate 4 pounds of rat poison. It was discovered HOURS later. We induced vomiting and then started shoveling charcoal down him. We gave him “everything” you can give to support clearance of the bromethalin, support him against shock but most importantly, brain edema. We gave Dexamethasone and fluids with DMSO under the skin. (The secret sauce). As he began to show twitching and agitation and then incoherence we induced a coma with diazepam, phenobarbital, methocarbamol, and gabapentin. He was comatose. For days.
Kerri ran fluids, including DMSO fluids several times the first week. We kept him warm, and turned him every two hours. When I say “we” I mean Kerri. He had enemas to clear his colon as stool finally came to rest but was not moving on its own. We had to catheterize his bladder because there was no detrusor reflex. After about six days we were pretty sure he would ENTIRELY fail neurologically and I speculated he would soon be unable to breathe. He lacked a withdraw reflex, no anal tone, toe pinch. He was dead. I wrote the FIRST song, below. https://youtu.be/OydtR6MuIMQ
Shortly, his overall condition seemed to stabilize. And we withdrew his sedatives and anticonvulsants.
Over the next four or five days he became more and more “aware” but I was still waiting for him to be able to track motion in a cogent, sentient way. He was regaining bladder, bowel and peripheral nerve function but he was not-home cranial nerve-wise.
Finally, he was able to push-off and push across the floor and soon, Kerri was able to help him to a stand. After that, it was like he was relearning how to walk. I am sure there was a significant loss of motor skills due to inactivity for so long. He could track, drink and eat on his own. Today he was walking around the clinic like he owned the place. I wrote the second song below. IT IS A SONG OF JUBILATION AND just reflects the fact that he is a bad ass. Not a bad ass. A FUCKIN’ bad ass. If you are offended by the EFF-WORD, don’t look at the second video. https://youtu.be/yaC72O_3ip0
