HOW TO MAKE GOOD DENTAL EXERCISE FOR DOGS THAT HATE DENTAL EXERCISE

Some dogs will not chew on ANYTHING that’s “scrapey” and as such, their teeth get really crusty (even on Greenies and rawhides) so they need a SCRAPEY treat and this one, defeats the pickiest dogs. Even a little Pomeranian or Yorkie will take a puffed Himalayan Treat. I do not sell these. These are not terrific for big dogs that will simply crunch them up in two seconds. This is for CHEWING in the under ten pound dogs.

You can buy Himalayan Treats (Dried/Baked Yak’s Milk) and put them in the microwave using 1 minute per 1 ounce of Himalayan Treat.

The Himalayan Treat puffs up about three to four times its original size. You want it to be a pale, butter colored. Not golden brown. Pale yellow.

That can be cooled and then cut into pieces for a small dog. It won’t last long enough for LARGE dogs; large dogs will just eat it.

Small dogs that WILL chew these “Himmy Puffs” should get a decent sized one three times a week. If your dog eats their puff in under 30 seconds, it’s a failure. Try a larger piece. If that’s gone in under 30 seconds, this dog should be eating bones.

This is what a Himalayan Treat looks like. Recently they've started selling the Himalayan treats ALREADY PUFFED which is a real rip off because they charge the same amount as the unpuffed ones so you get less treat.

The "WAG" brand from Amazon has a three pack and each piece is 1 ounce. Each 1 ounce piece gets ONE MINUTE in a 1200 W microwave and is "just about perfect."

The large knobby piece has been puffed. Typically I like them paler than this.

This is the brand I like.

3 Ounces Yak Treats from WAG

This is the WAG treat in the 1200W microwave, a one ounce piece does perfect at 1 minute.

WAG Dog Treat Small

This is the same treat puffed up 60 seconds later. It's fkn HOT so be careful. Later it will be super hard and crispy and can be cut up with the tip of a regular paring knife.

This is a perfectly puffed WAG Yak Treat.

Cut the Yak treat into pieces appropriate for your small dog. If the dog chews it down in less than 30 seconds, it means the chunk was too small or the dog is too big.

This is what a Yak Treat looks like after it's puffed for a couple minutes. It smells like burning hair and will be inedible to the dogs. Waste of a piece of Yak Treat.

FAQS

  1. What if my dog swallows a piece?  Answer: It doesn’t matter because it is digestible and will pass out of the stomach after it ‘waterlogs’ in stomach acid.
  2. I see some blood on the Puff while my dog is chewing it. Is this “bad”? Answer: No. It’s going to toughen the gums pretty fast. Some spotting while  chewing on these puffs is good.
  3. Can a dog safely “eat” a lot of puffed Himalayan treat? Answer: I don’t recommend really “loading a dog up” on these every day. It looks like a lot of ‘treat’ but remember it’s air expanded.
  4. Does this give dogs any diarrhea? Answer: No not so far and it’s been tried by many a dog.
  5. This is a milk product. Do you see “lactose intolerance” with it?    Answer: Well if you already know your dog can’t handle milk products (which is relatively rare) then don’t wade in on this but otherwise we’re not seeing problems.
